Pierpont's 80-hour "new miner" course is designed to prepare students for the WV Office of Miner's Health and Safety's certification exam, which is required for a job as an entry-level underground coal miner. Trainees will be exposed to a general orientation in mining, mining health and safety, mine gases and ventilation, roof and ribs, haulage, emergency response, accident prevention and hazard recognition, and miner and operator rights and responsibilities.

With an amazing 99% success rate, Pierpont is the area's leader in Red Hat Certification!

Student Testimonial:
I took the Red Hat class and went in for the test. Within a week I had a call from a contractor who offered me a job. And now I’m able to pay my bills and do the best I can for my family.
