Short Description: Pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist to dispense prescription medications. Pharmacy Technicians usually work in a hospital pharmacy or a retail pharmacy, but can also work in laboratories. Pharmacy Technicians are in high demand due to the constant development of new drugs, and an aging population that requires more and more of these drugs. Pharmacy technician can also be the first step toward a career as a pharmacist, nursing assistant or other medical professional. Recent studies show that the average starting wage is $12.62 per hour, but this varies greatly by location. 2015-2016 studies show the median income is $32,000 per year (ranging from entry-level $26,000 per year, to $39,000 with years of experience).

Instructor Description: This course provides students with certified, skilled facilitators to guide them through their learning experience. Facilitators who are well trained in a unique mastery methodology and provide one-on-one instruction to their students to ensure mastery of the course material. The course facilitator is available to answer any questions a learner may have including questions on course content, course material, certifications, and even industry questions. Facilitators also monitor the progress of learners to ensure training retention and program advancement. This program is supported by an expert educational facilitator, Leslie Ann Kalvass. Leslie earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy in Atlanta, Georgia and completed her fellowship at University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy and POZEN Pharmaceuticals, Inc., in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She has been instructing at universities and colleges since 2002. She is available to provide guidance and motivation for learners throughout the duration of this program. As an expert mentor, she will provide answers to learner questions, monitor learner's program progression, and review lesson and program quiz/test results.

Certification: Included in this program is the PTCB's CPhT certification exam practice test and an exam voucher.
The CPhT is the gold standard of credentialing for pharmacy technicians. PTCB® offers the CPhT certification to individuals who wish to distinguish themselves in the pharmacy technician field. PTCB’s certification program enables technicians to work more effectively with pharmacists to offer safe and effective patient care and service. Most employers prefer, and many require, that their pharmacy technicians be CPhTs.

Certification Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent educational diploma (e.g., a GED or foreign diploma)
Passing score on the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE)
